Earl Spencer, the uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry, has slammed BBC for major blunder.

Andy Webb, the author of Dianarama: The Betrayal of Princess Diana, revealed that the brother of late Princess Diana was "infuriated" by the news channel's report linked to Martin Bashir scandal.

For those unversed, the Martin Bashir scandal revolves around the infamous 1995 interview he conducted on the BBC program Panorama of lady Diana. In the interview the late Princess shared her personal struggles and breakdown of her marriage. But, the inquiry years later revealed that the journalist used "deceitful behaviour" to secure the interview.

Now, BBC News ran a report on November 20, suggesting that Earl Spencer had "waited 25 years before revealing the truth" about deceitful tactics Martin used to secure the interview.

However, as per Earl, the statement was misleading and inaccurate. In reality, the uncle of William and Harry had raised concerns with the news agency in 2005 via letter to then-director-general Mark Thompson about Panorama's conduct.

"Earl Spencer has confirmed that he shares my sense of astonishment at the BBC's actions and formally associates himself with my complaint to you. Your allegation that Earl Spencer 'waited 25 years before revealing the truth' is utterly outrageous," the complaint Earl sent to BBC by Andy Webb read.

Earl Spencer wrote, "Based on the documents I have at Althorp [the Spencer family home] - including notes I took at the time in my own hand - which prove Panorama's role in this matter to have been less than honest, I must register my astonishment that the BBC wishes to revisit this moment in its fine journalistic history."

This comes as Andy Webb shared recently that the late Princess Diana's eldest son Prince William is also determined to bring out the truth behind infamous Panorama interview.

He told Hello! Magazine that the Prince of Wales still believes that the inquiry led by Lord Dyson did not go far enough.

"He's determined to discover exactly what happened back in the day, as he doesn’t feel the official inquiry has provided sufficient answers," the royal expert added of the heir to the British throne.
