Prince William is said to be on a mission to expose the lies that his destroyed his mother, Princess Diana.
As reported by Hello! Magazine, the Prince of Wales is determined to uncover the truth behind infamous 1995 Panorama interview.
Speaking with the outlet, the author of Dianarama: The Betrayal of Princess Diana, Andy Webb shared that William is deeply affected by the deceit.
For those unaware, in the 1995 interview on the BBC program Panorama, conducted by journalist Martin Bashir, lady Diana spoke about her personal struggles and breakdown of her marriage. However, years later following an inquiry it was concluded that the journalist used "deceitful behaviour" to secure the interview.
Now, the royal author, who himself spent two decades investigating the scandal, revealed that the late princess' brother Earl Spencer, worked alongside him to bring the truth to the light.
He said, "I really do think that it’s an important story, particularly when you look at the effects on Diana's family, on Prince William and on Charles Spencer."
"I always try to stand back from the fact that these are royals, because they are real people," Andy noted.
As per him, William still believes that the inquiry led by Lord Dyson did not go far enough. "He's determined to discover exactly what happened back in the day, as he doesn’t feel the official inquiry has provided sufficient answers."
Andy added that for the Prince of Wales it is an "open wound" and he has people to help discover what exactly happened.
Additionally, the royal author detailed, "When William became aware of the absolute scale and complexity of the duplicity, that must have been heartbreaking for him, because he began to realise the enormous pressures that his mum had been placed under."
Adding, "I'm sure William feels just as you or I would feel if we realised that a con man had got into our mother's house. In many ways, Martin Bashir isn’t the critical character in this. The key moment, when that runaway train could and should have been halted, occurred about six months later [when the BBC first became aware of the forgery]. But she was a victim of her own celebrity, and the story was too big to fail."
Martin Bashir's lies reportedly made Princess Diana believe that Prince Charles was in love with the nanny and that the members of the staff were spying on her. As per Andy Webb these fabrications pushed her into emotional isolation during her final years.
He said, "There is a line that can be drawn between Panorama and Paris."
"Because of the falsehoods Diana had been told, she pushed aside people she no longer trusted, like Patrick Jephson, who had been that protective voice of wisdom," Andy Webb added.
Princess Diana passed away in a tragic car accident at the age of 36 on August 31, 1997.
