X is finally rolling out ‘Chat’ app with video calling
X also adds disappearing messages and file sharing features
Elon Musk’s owned X has finally revealed its long-promised chat platform, which replaces the service’s basic Direct Messages DM functionality.
The social interaction platform X (formerly Twitter) has finally launched its fully fledged chat application.
The new messaging app promises end-to-end encryption (E2EE), allowing users to send disappearing messages and share files.
It also includes a feature that lets users block screenshots.
Users can also edit and delete sent messages in X's Chat app.
X promises no ads, no tracking and total privacy in new interacting app.
The new Chat app is a fully-featured messenger with support for voice and video calls.
In addition to that a voice memo feature is also in the testing phase to-that will allow users to send pre-recorded voice messages.
X informs that protection isn’t perfect at this stage and this is a major issue for E2EE apps.
“Currently, we do not offer protections against man-in-the-middle attacks. As a result, if someone—a malicious insider or X itself as a result of a compulsory legal process—were to compromise an encrypted conversation, neither the sender or receiver would know.”
X claims that it is working on a new mechanism where “both senders and recipients should be alerted in the event of an attack.”
The Chat app is now currently available for iOS and through the web browser while an Android app is launching soon.
