King Charles appeared renewed in spirits and in good health marked an importnat year in his life given th ups and downs.
The monarch showed that he is still driving the ship (or tram, in this case) of his reign as he turned 77 on Friday, November 14.
While Charles did receive a special birthday surprise by Queen Camilla during their visit to Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, the King continued with his royal engagements for the day.
However, many royal fans seemed to believe that the engagement had secretly been an exciting “indulgence” for the king rather than a work commitment.
“Aww, he got a train set for his birthday,” one user on social media quipped.
Another noted, “He looks genuinely made up to be a train driver love it...even Kings have childhood dreams.”
A fan mused, “I wonder if that's something he always wanted to do as a boy, certainly looks happy and why not.”
During the engagement, the deputy Welsh first minister, had praised the “smooth driving” of the King.
Moreover, after unveiling the plaque at the station, Charles received a repurposed piece of railway crafted into bookends as a present. So, technically not a full train set, but Charles, who advocates for sustainability, did get a piece of it in a way that fully represents him.
Buckingham Palace shared a delightful video of the King going “all aboard” as he officially opened the new South Wales Metro Depot in Taff’s Well, the home of the South Wales Metro Project.
“His Majesty took to the driver’s seat for a tram-train journey before meeting the dedicated Transport for Wales staff who have made the flagship infrastructure possible,” the statement read. “The project includes electrifying 170km of existing railway, alongside upgrading the majority of stations.”
