'Jimmy Kimmel Live' still not airing on 70 ABC stations: Here's why
Jimmy Kimmel makes emotional return to his late night show
Jimmy Kimmel Live has officially received a green light to air on TV once again following the controversy.
On September 17, the renowned TV host was banned from his show over his insensitive remarks about late activist Charlie Kirk.
Even though, the host has returned again and the show has been resumed officially by Disney, but there are still some channels affiliated with ABC, who are not airing the programme.
70 ABC stations have decided not to air the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Some of them are namely "Sinclair Broadcast Group" and "Nexstar Media Group".
On September 23, Nexstar announced through a statement that its owned and partner TV stations "affiliated with ABC Television Network will continue to preempt 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
"We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve”, they said through their statement.
According to the reports of USA Today, Sinclair also preempted Jimmy Kimmel Live! as the station owner wants the 57-year-old to apologize to Kirk’s family over his comment and also make a donation to latter’s organization named, "Turning Point USA".
They announced that it will be "preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming.”
However, Sinclair also shared that "discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
The first episode of Kimmel’s show aired on September 23 following the suspension.
The American actor and comedian made received a standing ovation by the audience. He even made an emotional speech on his return.
