Texan trophy hunter Asher Watkins killed by buffalo in South Africa
Watkins was well known for sharing photos of his trophy hunts on his Facebook page
A Texas based trophy hunter Asher Watkins was killed by a fatal blow from buffalo in South Africa on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The 52-year-old ranch trader was stalking a 1.3-ton Cape buffalo in South Africa’s Limpopo while being on a guided hunting safari.
The hunter became the prey when the massive buffalo charged and delivered a fatal blow.
Coenraad Vermaak (CV) Safaris announced the tragic news on their website as they penned, “It is with deep sadness and heavy heart that we confirm the tragic death of our client and friend Asher Watkins from the United States.”
Revealing the cause of his death the CV Safari wrote, “Asher was fatally injured in a sudden and unprovoked attack by an unwounded buffalo.”
They refrained from sharing further details out of respect for the privacy of the late hunter’s family.
Watkins left behind his mother Gwen, his daughter Savannah, his brother Amon and his stepfather Tony.
The fate of the buffalo remains unclear. However, the Safari has warned about the dangers of Cape buffaloes.
The warning on their website reads, “No species on the planet has a more fearsome reputation than a Cape buffalo. The species is responsible for several deaths and many injuries to hunters each year.”
Watkins was well known for sharing photos of his trophy hunts such as deer, waterfowl and mountain lions on his Facebook page.
