'Roar for Tigers' on International Tiger Day
Tigers are not just majestic creatures- they are vital for maintaining the balance of ecosystems
Natural habitats are a gift from nature, but unfortunately, due to human negligence, these habitats are shrinking day by day.
The same holds true for the majestic tiger, known for its roar.
Tigers are a powerful indicator of ecosystem health. As apex predators, they help maintain balance in nature, which in turn supports biodiversity, regulates climate, and ensures the integrity of rivers and forests.
But these tiger habitats are not untouched wilderness.
History of International Tiger Day, July 29
The main purpose is to secure tigers and their natural habitats, and this year too, the day continues to call for tiger conservation and wildlife protection all over the world.
The day was launched fifteen years ago in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The day brought governments, schools, and individuals under one roof around the globe to save one of nature’s most iconic big cats.
Theme
This year on International Tiger Day 2025, the theme is, "Securing the future of Tigers with Indigenous People and Local Communities at the heart."
Tigers play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our ecosystems. Their decline signals deeper ecological imbalances that affect all life, including our own.
So, what we are waiting for? It’s high time to save tigers, protect forests; it’s the only way forward we can effectively spread the message of tiger protection worldwide.
Why do we celebrate it?
Tigers are not just majestic creatures- they are vital for ecosystems. Sadly, they are also endangered.
Over the last century, the global tiger population has dropped due to poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict. Once roaming around freely, tigers are now confined to small patches of forests.
Where do tigers roam free?
1. India – 3,265
2. Russia – 508
3. Bangladesh – 400
4. Indonesia – 350
5. Nepal – 263
6. Malaysia – 245
7. Thailand – 180
8. Bhutan – 99
9. China – 53
10. Myanmar – 26
The roar must be heard!
International Tiger Day 2025 is not merely a celebration- it’s a call to action. Tigers are on the brink of extinction, but with concerted efforts, their fate can be changed.
Let’s pledge to contribute in our own small way to save the tigers from extinction by raising awareness and spreading the message, so future generations shall have the chance to listen to the roaring in forests.
No matter what profession you belong to, what matters is your voice. So, raise it as loud as you can!
