China introduces Boxing, Mahjong humanoid robots at WAIC 2025
Humanoid robots boxed as China rolled out the latest AI advancement at WAIC 2025
China has drawn global attention by introducing boxing and Mahjong humanoid robots at the annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025 in Shanghai, highlighting the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
Unitree Robotics presented its boxing robots which exhibit the blend of cognitive and motor intelligence through the high-precision movements. The lightweight G1 robot weighs 35 kilograms and stands at 1.3 metres tall.
The robots, controlled by the operators through remote, took part in the one-on-one boxing fight, showcasing the boxing stunts and agility skilfully on par with humans.
Surprisingly, these humanoid robots also show swift recovery from fall and punches just like real human fighting.
On the other hand, people worldwide were also awestruck by the playing capabilities of the Mahjong robot developed by PsiBot, another leading player in China’s AI industry.
The participants of WAIC 2025 praised Mahjong robots as a novelty. Compared to humans, robots are more rational, but they fall short in playing speed.
Given the rapid pace of technological advancements, these robots will continue to improve in future and come closer to the fun of playing with real humans.
