China’s humanoid robot breaks barriers with self-battery swap
The Walker S2 humanoid robot is capable of running and swapping batteries
China has recently launched a jaw-dropping humanoid robot, the first of its kind that is capable of a self-battery swapping system and running autonomously for 24 hours a day.
The Walker S2 robot, developed by the Chinese company UBTECH, is 162 centimetres tall and weighs 43 kilograms, resembling a small adult.
The robot’s dual system is powered by a 48 volt lithium battery. This power efficiency enables Walker S2 to walk for 2 hours and stand for 4 hours on a single charge. Once the battery runs out, it takes 90 minutes to fully recharge it.
The autonomous battery swapping system is considered to be the most interesting feature as it eliminates the robot’s dependency on humans. Instead of relying on humans to change the batteries, the humanoid robot can change entirely on its own.
In addition to changing the batteries, it can also detect battery percentage and decide whether it is best suited to swap out one of its batteries or charge them based on the nature of the task, as reported by the Chinese publication.
The Walker S2 possesses 20 degrees of freedom and can serve the customers in factories or public venues. It is also featured with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
