Prince William plans first major move after succeeding King Charles
King Charles officially handed over a key role to the Prince of Wales last year
Prince William is ready to take on his key new role starting next week.
The Prince of Wales will visit Wattisham Flying Station on Wednesday, June 4, for his first official outing as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, GB News reported.
The role was formally passed down to him by King Charles in May 2024 during a ceremony at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop.
Now, William will spend the day getting an in-depth look at the regiment’s operations, beginning with a full briefing on the work of the AAC and 664 Squadron’s recent overseas deployments.
As part of the visit, the future king will also learn about the Army’s latest aviation upgrades — namely the Apache AH-64E attack helicopters — and observe a live combat PT session highlighting the squadron’s physical and mental training. He’ll then join soldiers and their families for the "Archer’s Breakfast," a tradition held weekly by 664 Squadron.
William will also take time to recognise individual achievements, presenting a King’s Commendation for Valuable Service and awarding promotions from Corporal to Sergeant.
The visit marks his first engagement since the half-term break, during which he spent time with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The young royals are expected to return to school next week, and to appear alongside their parents at Trooping the Colour in June.
