Varun Dhawan 'surprised' after securing Best Actor award for 'Bawaal'

Varun Dhawan had everyone laughing nervously when he was brutally honest about winning an award at the News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024 in Mumbai.

The 36-year-old actor won the Best Actor award, leaving everyone shocked, including himself.

During his acceptance speech, Varun's honesty had the audience in fits of laughter.

The Student of the Year actor revealed, “When the nominations were announced, Bhushan ji very sweetly told me, of course you are winning the award, that's why you showed up."

On which, Neha Dhupia and Aparshakti Khurana, the hosts, chuckled and attempted to control the situation, urging the Bhediya actor not to disclose any further secrets.

Varun then became serious and admitted that he never expected to win in a category alongside Salman Khan and Sunny Deol, mentioning, “My vote would go to them.”

The Main Tera Hero actor also discussed his film Bawaal and how it was initially criticized as "insensitive" when it was released but eventually became one of the most-watched movies of the year on OTT platforms, stating that the film has proven its lasting appeal.

He said, “When it was released, it was met with a lot of controversy and people had a mixed response to whether it was politically correct or not correct. But ass the year has ended, it was the most watched film on OTT. We won a lot of awards, various people loved the movie."

"Obviously people have a lot of views. Since the dust has cleared, we know the movie has stood the test of time. I think that is what a great movie, one that stands the test of time. It has been a while since Bawaal released, so I am also surprised that I am getting this award now.”
