New York's LaGuardia Airport on alert after 17 bullets found hidden in baby diaper
At LaGuardia Airport, suspect first denied then confessed to asking his partner to put bullet-loaded diaper in his suitcase
Security personnel discovered 17 bullets hidden inside a disposable baby diaper, as per the Transportation Security Administration at New York's LaGuardia Airport.
The TSA stated that after the diaper set off an alarm in an X-ray machine at an airport security checkpoint, officers removed the otherwise clean diaper from the passenger's carry-on luggage, reported AP.
The passenger first stated that he had no idea how the diaper containing bullets got into his suitcase. Later on, he advised his partner to place it there.
The man from Arkansas who had a ticket for a flight to Chicago's Midway Airport was recognised by the TSA, but they withheld his name. He received a citation from Port Authority police for illegally possessing the 9mm ammo.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the airport, and the Queens district attorney's office received messages requesting more information.
The person wearing a diaper disguise is the most recent traveller at LaGuardia to be reported for carrying a gun and occasionally heat. This issue has surfaced at airports all around the United States.
A .45-caliber handgun and a magazine filled to the brim with six rounds were discovered by TSA agents last month in a checked suitcase containing a pair of Nike trainers at LaGuardia. Weapons may be flown as checked baggage, but only in a hard-sided, secured container; shoes are not permitted.
