Billerica Route 3 closed for traffic after massive crash causes fuel tanker to roll over
Billerica Route 3 crash happened close to Exit 76 and traffic heading north would be detoured at that exit
In Billerica, on US Route 3, close to the Treble Cove Road exit, a petrol tanker carrying thousands of gallons of fuel overturned, causing traffic to stop in both directions.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation tweeted, "Expect delays and seek alternate route," reported Boston Herald.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, there is a continuing hazmat and environmental response as a result of the truck's fuel spill from the top of the tank onto the street. "Lane closures remain in place for the foreseeable future," they continued.
The collision was reported on Wednesday at 9:56am, the Billerica Police Department tweeted.
MassDOT said that the incident happened close to Exit 76 and that traffic heading north would be detoured at that exit, while traffic heading south would be detoured at Exit 79.
At 10:15am, the State Police tweeted that they had firemen and troopers on the site of the tanker collision, which involved "several thousand gallons of fuel."
