Mel Gibson was under the social media firestorm over his gesture at Fan Expo Canada
Mel Gibson says he was overwhelmed at that moment.
This was the time when he appeared to imitate, or in critics' interpretation mocked, the ASL reporter on his way to the stage at FanExpo Canada.
The backlash was ongoing for two days when the Braveheart star was invited for a Q&A session on his career.
The incident left many on social media furious when the gesture of Gibson caught on the camera and went viral on the internet.
Now, he has apologised.
“Sometimes when you get pushed out on a stage in a spotlight, your mind is all over the place, and sometimes spontaneous thoughtless idiocy is displayed,” he told Variety.
“There was no intended maliciousness attached, and I certainly apologise to anyone who was upset by it," he said.
