Dolly Parton laid to rest: What song did she choose for her funeral?

Dolly Parton delivered many songs in her career. But there was one she wanted to play at her funeral.

And no, I will always love You were not it.

Instead, it was one of the singer's hit songs which was sung with another powerhouse, Whitney Houston.

The track was such a hit that she even predicted the people might play the song at her funeral.

“I’m sure they’ll be playing ‘I Will Always Love You’ when I die, just like they did with Whitney Houston,” she told the EW at the time.

Still, however, the song she opted for was If We Never Meet Again.

"But there’s a song called 'If We Never Meet Again'," she then said.

The reasons for this choice had been several.

At first, the song has a personal link to Parton. It was the very same track that played at her father's funeral because it was his favourite.

"That was my daddy’s favourite. We did sing it at his funeral, and I would like it to be sung at mine," the late singer added.

Additionally, If We Never Meet Again conveys a message of brief separation and a forever reunion in heaven.

Meanwhile, the funeral of Parton has taken place in her hometown, Nashville.

Only close friends and family members were invited. While Parton is buried next to her husband Carl Dean.
