PPP leaders bash former PM for demanding governor’s rule
Karachi
Members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have condemned the demand recently made by former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to impose governor’s rule in Sindh.
A statement issued by the PPP media cell on Friday quoted three lawmakers of the party - Sardar Ali Nawaz Shah, Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, and Shahid Taheem- said that former PM Jamali had no moral right to talk on the issues of the Sindh government and its governance matters.
They said the PPP had been ruling in the province with a lawful and constitutional mandate of people of the province, adding that the recently held local government elections had once again proved that people in Sindh still preferred the PPP to rule in the province.
They said that in such circumstances no person had the moral and lawful authority to dismiss the democratically and constitutionally elected provincial government.
It seemed that politicians having no support or backing of masses had once again joined hands to conspire against the democratically elected governments in the country, the statement added.
They further said that during the tenures of Zafarullah Khan Jamali as prime minister of the country and chief minister of Balochistan, his governance had failed to redress the grievances of people and resolve their issues.
Statement on privatisation
In another statement, leaders of the PPP Karachi Division said that the federal had planned to sell out some 69 important public sector institutions and agencies on throwaway prices to blue-eyed people.
The statement said the news had come through media reports and the PPP had serious reservations and concerns if the government was had planned to sell the enterprises which were considered as strategic national assets for Pakistan.
The leaders said the federal government was under strict obligation to accept or deny the authenticity of the media reports.
They said the federal government should take into confidence lawmakers present in both the house of parliament about its plans to privatise national institutions like the Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, National Highway Authority, Port Qasim, Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, National Bank, State Life, Karachi Port Trust, Oil & Gas Development Co Ltd and power distribution. They also greeted the members of the Senate of Pakistan for adopting a resolution through majority vote, rejecting the ordinance aimed at privatisation of the PIA.
