KMC’s new sports facilities may be opened in July
KARACHI: The construction work at KMC sports complex is progressing fast and the new facilities are expected to be inaugurated in July, ‘The News’ learnt on Monday.
As much as 85 percent work has been completed and the remaining will be done in a couple of months.
The work remaining to be done includes electrical equipment installation and paint, a source said.
The project was slowed down due to paucity of funds for past several months but KMC high ups have now released funds for the completion of the project due to which pace of the work has been enhanced, the source said.
The pavilion of the athletics track, football and hockey ground has been completed, a KMC sports official confirmed.
The swimming and the diving pools have already been redeveloped. The swimming pool has been operational for many months but the diving pool is yet to be inaugurated.
The main features of this project are a track for athletics, a bowling alley, new squash courts, a futsal arena, badminton courts, a volleyball court, three cricket practice pitches and a football ground.
Another important aspect of this project is a shaded pavilion for more than 200 spectators. The pavilion is just in front of the football and athletics facilities.
Work on building academies for snooker and tae kwon do players has not been started yet, a source said.
A big piece of land at the end of Kashmir Road, adjacent to Shaheed-e-Millat Flyover, was allotted to Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) and Pakistan Tae Kwon Do Association for developing academies two years ago.
