APNS expresses grief over death of Sardar Mahmood

KARACHI: Sarmad Ali, President, Umer Mujib Shami, Secretary General, APNS, on behalf of the office bearers and members of the society, have expressed profound grief over the sad demise of Sardar Mahmood, publisher, Monthly Hina, Lahore. He was the younger brother of late Ibne Insha and uncle of Aamer Mahmood. The APNS office bearers expressed their condolence and prayed that Almighty Allah may rest the departed soul in peace and give patience to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

 

CPNE expresses grief over demise of Sardar Mahmood

KARACHI: The office bearers of Council of Pakistan News Papers Editors (CPNE) including President Majeebu Rehman Shami, Senior Vice President Ilyas Shakir, Vice Presidents Tahir Farooq, Shaheen Qureshi, Ayaz Khan, Owais Khushnood, Sadiq Baloch, Secretary General Dr. Jabbar Khattak, Joint Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi and Finance Secretary Hamid Hussain Abadi on behalf of CPNE standing committee and all members of the council have expressed deep grief over the sad demise of Sardar Mahmood Chief Editor Monthly Hinna.

The deceased was the elder brother of legendary Urdu poet Ibn e Insha and uncle of Group Editor Monthly Hinna and Kiran Digest group. The office bearers and members of the CPNE prayed for the eternal peace of departed soul and courage and patience to the bereaved family to bear this loss.

 

FC seizes 250 kg of opium, arms in Mashkel

QUETTA: Frontier Corps (FC) recovered a huge quantity of narcotics and arms from a suspected vehicle in Mashkel area of Chaghi district on Wednesday. FC personnel seized 250 kg opium, a Kalashnikov, magazines and rounds from a suspected vehicle. FC personnel cordoned off the entire area and started search to trace out the drug smugglers.

 

NDMA chairman reaches GB to review relief activities

ISLAMABAD: In coordination with the Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government and with assistance of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had sent 13.5 tons of relief goods to GB via C 130. The relief goods included wheat flour milk powder and other dryration beside 550 shelters and 350 blankets. More flights of C 130 have also been scheduled to send ration to GB till opening of Karakoram Highway (KKH). Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz on Wednesday reached GB to review the relief activities. He is also scheduled to meet with GB Chief Minister and other officials to coordinate relief effort in the wake of closure of KKH.

PHC dismisses bail plea of storekeeper

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has dismissed bail petition of a storekeeper of the Lady Reading Hospital co-charged with involvement in millions of rupees corruption in medicines purchase. A bench headed by Justice Qaiser Rashid dismissed the bail petition of the accused storekeeper Tariq Jan in millions of rupees corruption case in the hospital medicines. During the hearing, Assistant Advocate General Sikandar Shah informed the court that the accused was involved in millions of rupees corruption in the local purchase of medicines for the hospital. The official said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted the inquiry into the graft case and he was found involved in the embezzlement of funds along with other officials. He was later arrested. The assistant advocate general requested the court to dismiss the accused bail petition.

 

Lawyers in Shangla boycott courts to protest DSP’s killing

BISHAM: The lawyers on Wednesday announced three-day mourning over the killing of a sub-divisional police officer (DSP) (legal) Muhammad Ilyas and stayed away from court proceedings. The decision was made during a meeting of the Shangla Bar Association held with its president Shah Fawad Khan in the chair. The participants condemned the incident and expressed grief and sympathies with the bereaved family. They said that the slain DSP Muhammad Ilyas was a former member of the association and a self-made person. They demanded the government to arrest the accused involved in the killing of the official. They also decided to boycott the court proceedings today (Thursday) as well.  Unidentified persons had shot dead DSP Ilyas near a vegetable market in Mingora in Swat a day earlier. Another cop was also injured in the incident.

Autopsy confirms women killed at point-blank

MANSEHRA: The postmortem of the two women from Kohistan who had allegedly been killed in the name of honour has confirmed that they were killed at point-blank range with the same pistol. Civil Judge of Mansehra Ilyas Khan led a team of medical staff, police, and sanitary staff of Tehsil Municipal Authority, which carried out the postmortem. Sources said that both the victims were shot from point-blank in heads with the same pistol. It may be mentioned here that the exhumation of the bodies was postponed twice earlier on the order of the court of law on March 21 and April 5 this year. The police had arrested one Ahmad Khan and his nephews Sherzada and Noorul Rehman in March on the charges of killing two women of their family.

 

Cloth smuggler killed, cop injured

NOWSHERA: An alleged cloth smuggler was killed and a cop sustained injuries in a police encounter in Pir Sabaq area here, an official said on Tuesday. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cantonment Raza Muhammad Khan told reporters that the cops signalled a suspected car to stop at a checkpoint but the driver sped away. He said the cops present at the checkpoint started chasing the car and the accused opened fire on the police van, injuring the driver, Constable Taqiullah. They said the police van skid off the road and overturned. The other cops, however, remained unhurt in the incident. They said the police and the smugglers exchanged fire in which a smuggler identified as Qumandan, stated to be an Afghan national, was killed on the spot while his other accomplice was arrested. The police recovered a Kalashnikov from them. They said the injured cop was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar owing to his critical condition.

 

‘Tirah IDPs to return home soon’

BARA:  Senator Momin Khan Afridi from Khyber Agency said that the displaced persons belonging to the Tirah areas would return to their respective areas soon. He was talking to the delegation of the Kukikhel tribe, he said that the displaced people belonging to the Rajgal, Mastak, Sidaq and other areas in Tirah valley would return soon. The senator said that the government had stopped the ration of the Tirah IDPs would be discussed with the responsible officials. The parliamentarian assured the delegation that he would extend all possible help to them in resolving the problems of the area.

 

PERC discusses voting right for overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The Sub committee of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms (PCER) Wednesday discussed the voting right for overseas Pakistanis.Member of the National Assembly Dr Arif Alvi who chaired the meeting told newsmen that voting by overseas Pakistanis in person was not possible. He said an international firm briefed the committee regarding the voting facilities for overseas Pakistanis.Arif Alvi said the committee reviewed different options for voting by overseas Pakistanis.It was noted that Internet voting through smart phones was more secure and safe and a pilot project in that regard would be started soon, he added.

 

Three-day physical remand of PIMS rape accused granted

ISLAMABAD: Duty Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja has granted three days physical remand of rape accused of a disabled girl patient admitted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital. CIA police has requested the court for seven day physical remand of the accused Krishan Kumar. However the court granted three day physical remand.The FIR was registered against the accused Krishan Kumar on an application of PIMS management after the complaint of victim’s father. After registration of the case CIA wing of Islamabad police has been entrusted the task to further handle this case which presented the accused in the court on Wednesday and got his three day physical remand.

 

Saudi Arabia donates 396 metric tons of dates

ISLAMABAD: The World Food Programme (WFP) has received a contribution of 396 metric tons of Dates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of WFP’s relief assistance programme. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest producers of dates worldwide.According to the press release issued here on Wednesday the dates will be distributed as part of WFP’s relief assistance programme. Approximately 148,000 registered families will receive the dates between April and June 2016.

Senegal president to visit Islamabad on 22nd

ISLAMABAD: President of Senegal Macky Sall will pay a visit to Islamabad on April 22-24. The Senegal’s President is arriving here on the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a PM’s Office statement said here Wednesday.
