Ryanair emergency landing in Greece: Passenger injured after mid-air window blowout
A Greece-to-Germany Ryanair flight makes emergency landing after mid-air window failure partially pulls passenger through opening
A horrifying mid-air emergency unfolded on a Ryanair flight from Greece to Germany on Friday when a cabin window dislodged shortly after takeoff, causing a rapid decompression that partially sucked a passenger out of the aircraft.
Passengers reported falling asleep shortly after takeoff when they were startled by a loud noise resembling a " a minor explosion.
Local media in Greece reported that a piece of engine broke off and smashed a window, causing the cabin to decompress and sucking one passenger partially out of the window.
It happened as the cabin immediately lost pressure, the oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling, and a strong smell filled the air.
The incident resulted in a rapid decompression of the aircraft cabin, causing a 61-year-old Serbian tourist to be partially sucked through the dislodged window up to his shoulders.
The plane was flying from Thessaloniki to Memmingen airport in Germany.
The exact cause of the incident has not yet been officially elaborated. While unconfirmed reports suggest that debris from an engine malfunction may have struck the window.
All passengers and crew landed safely, and Ryanair arranged an alternative aircraft to complete the journey.
Ryanair updated in a statement "the aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal," Ryanair said in a statement."
