CM for improving rule of law
Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting which reviewed different proposals for improving the rule of law in the province.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said there was a need to evolve a comprehensive road map for improving the rule of law. He said it was necessary to introduce reforms in policing, investigation, prosecution, forensic and other important sectors.
He said that police would have to keep in view the new demands for coming up to the expectations of the masses. He said that implementation of the proposed steps for further improving the rule of law would result in ensuring justice to people. He said the Punjab government had set up a most modern scientific laboratory in the province and satellite centres of forensic science laboratory would also be established in nine divisions of the province. He said the step would help in timely preservation of evidence in important cases. He said stressed the need of moving forward through multi-dimension efforts for further improving the rule of law.
He said that in addition to better case management, training of investigation and prosecution staff was also necessary. He said that confidence of people in police system will have to be restored through joint efforts; strict accountability system had been evolved for the elimination of corruption from the province; however, the process of accountability would have to be further improved, he added.
