As always, the bi-annual and three-day event hosts a number of unknown designers that have commercial presence but are yet to make it big on the fashion circuit. But speckled here and there are credible names like Fahad Hussayn, Nickie Nina, Asifa Nabeel, Zainab Chottani and Amir Adnan. Making a debut in Karachi is Saadia Mirza, that opulent and whimsical designer from Lahore who comes and goes as she wishes. And showing for the first time at BCW is Karachi based Sonya Battla, a name that brings immense credibility to the line-up. Sonya is scheduled as the Grand Finale on the third and last day of BCW. The event will also feature a showcase of ‘Grand Couturiers’ in which one expects to see a variety of capsule collections from several big names (we know that Sania Maskatiya is showing here).
While BCW has very little value for thoroughbred fashion enthusiasts, it has tremendous commercial appeal, which is why designers opt to show on the platform. The audience, we presume, comes for the show of glitz and bling as well as the presence of numerous stars and starlets that the organizers rope in for the event. Expect to see some of television’s biggest names even if you don’t get to see much of the country’s best fashion. And post script, we’ve heard that BCW has roped in an Indian show director who will be choreographing the event instead of HSY. Intriguing!
