TOKYO: A light plane crashed into a residential area in Tokyo Sunday morning, setting fire to several houses, according to local media.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.

Japan's public broadcaster NHK said three people were involved in the accident and one of them had been rescued, but offered few other details.

At least three houses and two cars were on fire in the capital's residential district of Chofu, and the crash also damaged the roofs of other houses nearby, NHK said.

Television footage showed firefighters battling the inferno, and the remains of the plane's tail.
