SYDNEY: Pakistan’s former skipper and ‘Swing ka Sultan’ Wasim Akram continues his criticism of the team selection by stating that in form players should have been included in the squad for the World Cup.

“The batsmen in form should have been included. Rizwan a batsman from Peshawar scored 200 in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and a century in the ODI final. Why was he not included? If we speak of performance in first class he should have been part of team.”

Akram speaking to Geo News said this should be a learning experience and we should realise how to pick a team for the future. “Team should only be picked by the selectors with the captain’s input.”

Wasim Akram added that he had learnt from his ‘gurus’ Imran Khan and Javed Miandad that the team is selected according to the preference of the captain.

In an earlier interview, Pakistan’s former captain was critical of the decision to not include Shoaib Mailk and Sohail Tanveer as replacements for injured players in the squad. Akram had said he was baffled by why Malik and Tanveer who had performed well in the Australian Big Bash were not included.
