PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani on Monday awarded the Bannu Police for arresting a gang of robbers and recovering the looted amount of Rs4.6m along with arms.
According to a Police Department handout, two citizens of Bannu recently withdrew Rs2.6m from a bank sited in front of Bannu Press Club. On way back to home when they reached Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan road, they were intercepted by three robbers riding a motorcycle.
The handout said the robbers shot and injured them on offering resistance. They snatched Rs2.6m from them and fled the scene. The police chased the fleeing robbers.It said the robbers were taking their share of the booty in a house when the police reached and overpowered one of them. The other two ran away.
The police party also succeeded in arresting the remaining two robbers. The cops also recovered from the house seven Kalashnikovs, three pistols and the motorcycle used in the incident.
During preliminary investigation the accused also confessed to another robbery and thus Rs2.million looted in that case was recovered from them. The award distribution ceremony was arranged at the Central Police Office.
The IGP said police cannot achieve hundred percent success against criminals without the active support of the public. The police chief awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates to Deputy Superintendent of Police Syed Inayat Ali Shah, Station House Officer Inspector Iftikhar Ali Shah, head constable Rehmat Ali and constable Riaz for working out the robbery incidents.
