IGP awards prizes to Swat officials over convictions

PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani has awarded police officials for excellent performance through technology-based policing and ensuring punishment to terrorists through courts.
The Swat Police investigation wing was able to punish six people through the Anti-Terrorism Court, which included life imprisonment, 25-year rigorous imprisonment and confiscation of property. From the terrorists, the police recovered 48 kilograms explosive material, five hand-grenades, 10 pistols and materials promoting sectarian hate.
The Swat Police, through technology-based policing, checked more than 5,000 people through Identity Verification System (IVS) while the Kohat Police checked over 4,000 people and Charsadda police verified 2000 people through Criminal Record Verification System (CRVS).
Addressing the function, IGP Nasir Durrani said that steps introduced through modern technology against terrorism and for maintenance of law and order were producing good results.
He said that computerised data about most of the crimes has been made available to all the police and it can be easily checked through modern gadgetry provided to the police.
The police chief said the technology-based policing ensured more professional and systematic policing in the province. The IGP also appreciated the performance of investigation wing of the Swat Police on being successful to get six terrorists punished from the courts.
On the occasion, the IGP awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates to Senior Superintendent of Police Investigation Swat Gulzar, Inspector Afsar Zaman and ASI Bakht Rahman, Kohat Police SPO Muhammad Umair Akhunzada and Charsadda Police SPO Syed Adil Shah.
