The traders of the federal capital have announced with consensus a shutter down strike on Tuesday (April 28) in Islamabad to register their protest against the government decision for forced closure of shops at 8 p.m.
The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of local traders after thorough consultation with trade leaders of all markets.
Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan President Ajmal Baloch, Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran Islamabad President Muhammad Kashif Chaudhry, presidents and general secretaries of market unions of Islamabad and a large number of businessmen were present on the occasion.
The traders said that the government should have taken them onboard before taking decision of closure of shops in Islamabad at 8 p.m. They said the local administration has started visiting main markets of Islamabad to pressurise shopkeepers for closure of shops, which was highly condemnable. The traders vowed that they would never accept closure of shops by 8 p.m. in Islamabad and threatened that if local administration used any coercive measures all traders would strongly resist such moves.
The traders appealed to the prime minister to take notice of such bureaucratic tactics and withdraw the decision taken in a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy Conservation without any consultation with stakeholders.
They warned that if the government did not pay any heed to their strike call, they would take future line of action in the next meeting to protect their rights at every cost.
