KARACHI: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Salahuddin Ahmed has hailed the duo of Younis Khan and Shan Masood, saying that the two have propelled Pakistan within striking distance of what would be a historic victory.
Salahuddin, also a former Pakistan chief selector, told ‘The News’ on Monday that with their brilliant centuries against Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the final Test at Pallekele, the Shan-Younis pair had given the tourists an excellent opportunity of winning an away series.
“The way Shan and Younis have batted should really give our team a huge morale-booster,” Salahuddin said.
He was all praise for the seasoned Younis Khan, stressing that the former Pakistan captain always clicks when it matters the most.
“Many critics believed that Younis is now a spent force but this great batsman has once again proved that there is still a lot of cricket left in him,” he said.
Salahhuddin also showered praise on the young Shan, saying that the left-handed opener had really proved his worth by scoring a much-needed ton under pressure.
“Young and talented players like Shan Masood are the future of Pakistan cricket,” he said.
Salahuddin said that Pakistan should go on to win the match and the series but cautioned that the first hour on the final day would be a crucial one.
“We still need 140 odd runs to win the match and I believe it will be important that the two unbeaten batsmen go on to score some more runs in the first session on Tuesday,” he said.
