Knowledge Park project to help promote education: CM
Says Rs21 billion allocated for project for next three years

LAHORE
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Board of Directors of Lahore Knowledge Park Company, here Tuesday, which decided to set up University of Information Technology, Engineering and Applied Sciences at the park.
The chief minister said that the Punjab government would provide all-out resources for the project. He said that funds would be provided on priority basis to equip the youths with information technology, engineering and modern sciences. He said that besides modern technology, there was also a need to pay attention to research and development and the proposed university would be established to meet the present and future demands.
The chief minister said that the Punjab government had allocated Rs21 billion for the Knowledge Park Project for the next three years and would provide Rs7 billion every year from its own resources. He said that the proposed project would play an important role in the promotion of applied sciences, information technology, engineering, high tech and other modern knowledge and the project would prove to be a milestone in the promotion of education and research. Shahbaz Sharif said that provision of resources for promotion of education was useful investment.
He said the Punjab government would invest in future of the country through Knowledge Park project. He said that establishment of the university was essential for the empowerment of youth. He directed the board of governors to submit final recommendations at the earliest.
Punjab Information Technology University Vice-Chancellor Umer Saif gave a briefing regarding University of Information Technology, engineering and applied sciences. Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Higher Education and members of board of governors of Lahore Knowledge Park Company attended the meeting.

He said that no effort would be spared during next two and a half years to make Pakistan a peaceful, safe and developed country. Talking to assembly members, here Tuesday, Shahbaz Sharif said that resolving energy crisis was the top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-N government. He said that work was speedily in progress on coal power plants of 1,320 megawatts in Sahiwal and solar power projects in Bahawalpur. He said that a sum of Rs110 billion had been saved in the 3,600 megawatts projects of power generation from gas in Punjab. He said that due to the completion of a number of power projects in 2017, thousands of megawatts electricity would be added to the national grid.
He said that due to the policies of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the confidence of foreign investors had been restored. He said that the sincere efforts of the government for resolving energy crisis would yield results and as a result of increase in power production, poverty would be eliminated while business and trade activities would accelerate.
Those who met the chief minister included Haji Imran Zafar MPA, Mehwish Sultana MPA and former MPA Haji Nasir. Manshaullah Butt MPA was also present on the occasion.
