Tornado warning issued as severe storms cause damage and power outages across Northeast Ohio
The storms brought strong winds, hail and heavy rain on Tuesday evening, leaving thousands of FirstEnergy customers without power
Severe storms sweeping through Northeast Ohio have triggered multiple tornado warning alerts and caused widespread damage across the region.
According to reports from WEWS News 5 Cleveland, the storms brought strong winds, hail and heavy rain on Tuesday evening, leaving thousands of FirstEnergy customers without power.
Several communities reported damage, including fallen trees, downed power lines and structural impacts to buildings.
At Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, travellers faced high winds and driving rain as conditions worsened.
"I heard the rain. I went to the window and so they saw the little wind, didn't think nothing of it. Went back to sit down. Next thing, you know, sha boom boom. Literally one minute," said homeowner Ronney Jeffries, according to WEWS news.
Additional reports included shelf clouds in Brunswick and a downed power pole in Geneva.
Emergency crews continue to assess the damage as storms move through the area, with officials urging residents to remain cautious and stay indoors where possible.
