Car crashes into North Circular Bus stop, two injured
Black Ford Focus crashed into North Circular bus stop injuring two people, bus shelter destroyed
Two people were injured after a black Ford Focus ploughed into a bus stop queue on London's North Circular just before 8am on Sunday, leaving the shelter in a mangled wreck and raising serious questions about road safety on the dangerous stretch.
The vehicle turned around a small curve on the busy dual-carriageway road and collided with the waiting passengers while doing a somersault to land upside down on the road. People ran for their lives after spotting the moving vehicle rushing towards them.
"People ran for their lives after seeing the car coming," said Rico Kwame, a witness to the accident. "The car came quickly; this is a terrible stretch of the road where everyone goes very fast and there's a slight bend. People were inches from death. It's a miracle no one was killed."
According to Metro, the accident took place on the 112 bus service, which caters to Ealing, in west London, during the morning rush hour when schoolchildren and passengers were queuing.
A mother-of-two whose children sometimes use the stop said the area was "packed with people" at the time of impact. "School kids use that stop, including my children sometimes. It's peak time to get to school or work.
Everybody scattered when the car came towards them. There were a lot of people who looked in shock, and two people looked injured."
The London Ambulance Service stated that the service reached the scene at 7:56am and sent two ambulance teams and one incident response team to the scene. Two injured individuals were treated on site and taken to hospital.
The police secured the site with safety perimeters, and North Circular Road was temporarily closed because of the emergency situation.
