BAHAWALPUR: The police widened the scope of investigation into the murder of Professor Khalid Hameed of Government Sadiq Egerton College Bahawalpur who was stabbed to death by his student on Wednesday.
The culprit was produced in Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday which remanded him into police custody for fifteen days as requested by PS Civil Lines Police.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawalpur Ameer Taimoor Khan while talking to The News said that the special investigation team headed by SP Investigation Saleem Niazi had been constituted which would probe every aspect of this heinous crime using the latest technology. He also said that a special prosecutor had been engaged for this case.
The DPO, however, admitted that this was not an ordinary murder but a stigma for society as a renowned educationist had been killed in the name of religion. The DPO disclosed that keeping in view the sensitivity of this crime deputy commissioner Bahawalpur has been asked to form a special investigation team which would probe the internal cause of this murder and the circumstances leading to such a brutality.
He said that he had met the bereaved family and provided them security after knowing their concerns amid the panic ridden atmosphere in the area.
The students of English Department of Government Sadiq Egerton College staged protest demonstration outside the college and demanded thorough probe to unearth the conspiracy behind this brutal incident. The college was opened on Thursday nevertheless a small number of students came to the college whose atmosphere was mournful.
On the other hand the college faculty members according to the reliable sources blamed one another for not knowing the gravity of the matter and circumstances which led to this harrowing murder of a senior academician of this 133-year old college of this region.
