Mahoor, Irfan emerge National Badminton champs

ISLAMABAD: Mahoor Shahzad (women) and Irfan Saeed (men) turned out to be the proud winners of the National Ranking Badminton that concluded at the Rodham Hall Monday. In men’s final Irfan (Wapda) got better of Murad Ali (NBP) 21-15 and 24-22 while Mahoor (Wapda) faced little problem in disposing off Sehra Akram (Wapda) 21-10, 21-9. Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri (NBP) got better of Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar (Wapda) 21-17, 21-13 to win men’s doubles title. Women doubles title was scooped up by Mahoor and Saima Waqas (Wapda) beating Ghazala and Zuberia (SNGPL) 21-11, 21-13. Zeeshan Naqvi, Deputy Mayor Islamabad was guest of honour and distributed prizes among winners. Waji Ali (secretary Pakistan Badminton), Pervaiz Butt (President Islamabad Badminton Association), Syed Zahid Shah (General Secretary IBA), Muijahid Hussain Khan (associate secretary IBA) were also present on the occasion. Over 150 men and women players participated in the event.
