DUBAI: Sindh Governor Zubair Umar has critically analysed the judicial activism in the country, saying that it has been hurting Pakistan’s economic development.

Speaking at a discussion “Pakistan at the Crossroads” in Dubai organised by Corporate Pakistan Group and Nutshell Conferences, the governor said judicial interference in some socio-economic projects costs Pakistan billions of dollars.

Zubair Umar said that international investors are reluctant to initiate projects in Pakistan due to continuous intervention of courts. He elaborated with the examples of Reko Diq project and rental power projects where Pakistan has already lost cases in the international arbitration tribunals.

He stated that the judiciary would hopefully refrain from taking economy-related cases into courts. Referring to the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri and naming the Physics Department of Quaid-i-Azam University after Dr Abdus Salam, he lauded the bold and courageous steps of the PML-N government.

Founder of Corporate Pakistan Group Muhammad Azfar Ahsan also highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s economy. He also stressed on Pakistan’s community living in the UAE to portray a finer picture of the country.
