MMA forms central executive council to elect office-bearers
LAHORE: A meeting of heads of five component parties of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Thursday constituted the central executive council of the alliance, moving one step closer to elect the central office-bearers in the next meeting, scheduled for Feb 15 in Islamabad.
A briefing was given to the media after the meeting at the office of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith (MJAH). Senator Professor Sajid Mir, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Senator Sirajul Haq, Pir Ijaz Hashmi and Allama Sajid Naqvi were present on the occasion. Prof Sajid Mir said constituting the central executive committee was a big step taken in the meeting. He said the central executive council comprising party heads and three members from each component would elect the central office-bearers in the next meeting in Islamabad.
He said the prime objective of reviving the MMA was to enforce the Shariah system in the country and enforce Islamic values under Nizam-e-Mustafa. He said all component parties would take the decisions with complete consultation and unanimity.
He said the meeting decided to protect the legislations regarding the finality of Prophethood (SAW), and to counter the conspiracies to enforce secularism in the country. He made it clear that no amendments to the law of finality of Prophethood (Khatm-e-Nabuwat) would be accepted, adding that the MMA would launch mass contact movement soon. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the MMA would observe countrywide solidarity day with Kashmiris’ freedom struggle on Feb 5.
Sajid Mir said the MMA would support country’s principled stance on Kashmir, Palestine and US-Israel move to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He said the meeting decided to uphold protection of the rights of minorities. However, the MMA leaders could not elaborate on their decision taken in the previous meeting in Karachi, that all component parties in the alliance would dissociate themselves from their allied government within a month.
