Protesting locomotive drivers of the Pakistan Railways who went on strike early on Sunday morning resumed their duties by the evening after being assured by officials that talks would be held to review their demands.
The strike call had disrupted the train schedule and passengers bore through agonising delays at stations across the province. The protesters’ demands, which include an increase in allowances and the release of the drivers arrested for going on strike, are expected to be taken up at a meeting at the Pakistan Railways headquarters in Lahore on Monday (today).
Earlier, a railways spokesman confirmed that six drivers from Rawalpindi and eight from Karachi were arrested and that the Railways Police had been directed to register cases under terrorism laws. — PPI
