Neatness raids on campuses without sweepers flayed

United Teachers Council (UTC) Punjab has criticised schools department and other government officials for ‘raiding’ public schools to monitor cleanliness arguing that most of posts of sweepers are laying vacant.
In a press release, the UTC leaders, including Tariq Mahmood, Hafiz Abdul Nasir and others said without sweepers it was not possible to ensure cleanliness at big schools having 2,000 plus enrolment. While some schools had just one sweeper many didn’t have any, they said and added such huge task of cleanliness could only be performed by genie.
The UTC leaders demanded the government to immediately fill all vacant posts of sweepers by lifting ban imposed on their recruitment. They also warned that if this and many other issues faced by schoolteachers were not solved, the teachers would take out a big rally in the provincial metropolis on 28th of March.
Workshop: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha has said that livestock sector is rapidly growing and there is a dire need for imparting knowledge to farmers for solving the problems related to their livestock.
He was addressing the concluding session of a five-day workshop on “Reproductive Ultrasonography in Domestic Animals” arranged by the Society for Animal Reproduction of Pakistan (SARP) in collaboration with Department of Theriogenology, UVAS.
Prof Pasha asked the participants to use social media to remain in contact, share their experiences and keep on learning the latest techniques used in animal reproduction. He also congratulated organisers for arranging such a useful workshop.
Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that modern diagnostic tools like ultrasonography had greatly helped reduce problems in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats.
He said that the workshop participants came from Gilgit-Baltistan, AJ&K, Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, KPK, Bahrain and Dubai.
He said the participants took keen interest in the workshop as it provided training to the participants on early pregnancy diagnosis and reproductive disorders in farm animals. He said that the workshop covered five species and created awareness among the stakeholders about the use and benefits of ultrasonography in animals through arranging interactive sessions between industry representatives and practitioners.
The companies which are marketing relevant products and ultrasound machines also showcased their products and held interactive sessions. A visit to a stud farm and a dairy farm was also part of the training.
Conference: A conference titled “fourth Advance in Medical Practice and Education” concluded on Friday.
Participants highlighted the importance of research work in medical profession. They said transfer of knowledge and sharing experiences with one another benefited in every walk of lives, particularly in the field of medical.
UVAS: The annual reunion of the Alumni Association of University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS), Lahore, will be held on March 31 at the City Campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired a meeting of the conveners and secretaries of various organising committees and reviewed the arrangements for the annual get-together.
Innovation: Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin has said that indigenous innovative products must be commercialsed for the benefit of society.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of 'The Sixth Invention to Innovation Summit' at Punjab University (PU), he said there was abundance of resources in Pakistan that must be utilised in a right manner. He added that innovative products of students must be commercialised in order to encourage them..
PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Akhwat Foundation Executive Director Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib, Institute for Research Promotion CEO Abid Sherwani, Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Taqi Zahid Butt, Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Director Prof Dr Tahir Jamil, scientists, researchers, faculty members and a large number of students were present.
Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said the summit had provided a platform to industrialists and academia to work together. Dr Amjad Saqib said entrepreneurship created opportunities for everyone. Dr Tahir Jamil said that the two-day summit featured 200 posters and 50 presentations.
