PESHAWAR: After nearly seven years of delay and neglect by previous governments, the current PTI government has finally started work on the long-awaited missing link of the Peshawar Ring Road — a crucial connector between Warsak Road and Nasir Bagh Road, poised to reshape the city’s traffic flow and unlock new development corridors.

Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) says that the project aims to alleviate traffic congestion, promote organised urban development, and provide an alternative route for commuters and freight transport.

The 8.7-kilometer stretch, known as Phase I, is being executed with Rs9.67 billion. It includes the main carriageway and essential infrastructure such as bridges, underpasses, and utility relocation works. To ensure timely completion, the project has been divided into four construction packages. The contract has been awarded, and the contractor has mobilised equipment and staff.

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved Phase I on March 3, 2025, as a non-ADP (Annual Development Programme) scheme. However, flyovers and service roads have been deferred to Phase II, which is estimated to cost Rs9.65 billion. Phase III, costing Rs1.879 billion, will cover electrification and other ancillary works. PDA DG Naeem Khan said the tenders for Phase I were floated, with bid opening held on April 23, 2025. The chief minister has directed that this phase be completed within six months, with full funding assured.
