King 'drops royal protocol' in warm meeting with Lamine Yamal
Spanish royal family welcome the country’s national team after they defeated Argentina in the World Cup final
Spain’s King Felipe VI, his wife Queen Letizia, and the couple’s daughters welcomed the Spanish team to celebrate their FIFA World Cup victory.
A video of the team’s arrival went viral after eagle-eyed fans noticed something unusual as the royals greeted the players.
Fans couldn’t help but smile when every Spanish player followed what looked like protocol while meeting the royals, but Lamine Yamal did not.
The King and his family queued up to welcome the team, shaking hands with the players.
While shaking hands, the monarch also patted the players on their shoulders to acknowledge their achievement.
However, Lamine Yamal not only shook hands with the King but also hugged him.
“All the players respectfully greeted the King, then Lamine Yamal greeted him like one of the boys,” said a user jokingly on X while commenting on the video.
Another user wrote, “Actually, what’s cooler is that it’s the KING who greeted HIM like that.”
“Man knows the next 20 years are his,” said another.
