LAHORE:Pakistan has taken an important step forward in healthcare with the launch of its first national guidelines for managing constipation in adults.

These guidelines were introduced at the 41st International Conference of the Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy, attended by experts from both Pakistan and abroad. The development of these guidelines took over two years and was led by a team of top medical professionals in the country. Their goal was to create a clear, evidence-based framework that would help doctors across Pakistan diagnose and treat adult constipation more effectively. The final document reflects international best practices, while also considering the unique cultural and clinical realities of Pakistan.

The guidelines were published in the Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences, a well-known, peer-reviewed medical journal. They provide step-by-step guidance for healthcare providers, making it easier to offer consistent and reliable care in all settings, including rural and underserved areas. These guidelines not only aim at improving current treatment but also create a solid foundation for future research and policymaking.

Martin Dow Marker Limited has contributed to this initiative through an unconditional educational grant. The content and recommendations were developed independently by the medical panel, with no influence from the sponsor. All experts involved have declared no conflicts of interest, ensuring the guidelines maintain full scientific and ethical integrity.

Dr Atif-ur-Rehman Khan, Director Business Unit, Martin Dow, said: “These guidelines reflect our collective commitment to enhancing patient care in Pakistan. We deeply appreciate the invaluable contributions of the medical experts involved. At Martin Dow, we continue to prioritise initiatives that support the advancement of clinical practice across the nation.” This milestone highlights a collective effort to strengthen clinical practices and improve the quality of life for many people across the country.
