‘Grid Girls’ internship offered
Islamabad:The National Grid Company (NGC), formerly known as NTDC, has announced the launch of its groundbreaking ‘Grid Girls’ Internship Programme 2025, a fully paid internship initiative exclusively designed for women, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank.
Officials said the pioneering programme was aimed at empowering female students pursuing degrees in Electrical, Electronics and Civil Engineering by offering them hands-on experience in real-world engineering environments. The initiative also promises opportunities for leadership development, professional networking, mentorship and training, according to officials.
They said the internship would offer participants the chance to work on national-level engineering projects while receiving a monthly stipend of Rs10,000. In addition to technical exposure, interns will benefit from tailored coaching sessions and the opportunity to build connections with industry professionals. The programme is open to female students currently enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or DAE programmes, as well as recent graduates from relevant fields. Applicants with previous research or internship experience are encouraged to apply. A full-time commitment for the internship duration is required.
The programme is structured into two cohorts. Cohort 1 will run for two months and is geared toward third-year undergraduate students (5th/6th semester) and first or second-semester Master’s students. It will focus on practical, hands-on participation in national projects.
Cohort 2, lasting one month and overlapping with Cohort 1, is designed for a broader group, including students from the second semester through final year undergraduates and eligible TVET students. This phase will provide a more exploratory learning experience. The officials said the ‘Grid Girls’ programme marked a significant step toward promoting gender inclusion in Pakistan’s engineering sector, creating new pathways for women to contribute to the country’s infrastructure and energy development.
