LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned its attention to finalising its red-ball coaching set-up, with former captain Misbah-ul-Haq emerging as a prime candidate for the role, sources close to the board have revealed.
With Mike Hesson already appointed as white-ball head coach, the PCB is now evaluating options for a specialist Test coach to lead Pakistan in the upcoming World Test Championship cycle. Misbah, who previously served as head coach and chief selector (2019-2021), is reportedly back in the mix due to his deep understanding of Test cricket and disciplined approach.
While other local and foreign candidates are also under consideration, Misbah’s prior experience—including his recent stint as a domestic team mentor—has strengthened his case. His previous tenure, though met with mixed results, was credited with fostering a structured environment within the squad.
PCB insiders suggest that discussions have gained momentum in recent days, with a final decision expected before Pakistan’s next Test series. If appointed, Misbah’s immediate task would be to stabilize Pakistan’s Test fortunes, particularly in overseas conditions.
