MANSEHRA: A lady health worker was bitten by a snake while on polio duty in the Parain Khairabad area on Thursday.“Our team shifted the victim to a nearby health facility, where doctors admitted her for treatment,” Amir Khadam, a Rescue 1122 official, told reporters.

The polio team, comprising two lady health workers and a police constable, was administering polio drops to children aged five and below during a catch-up day when a snake suddenly appeared and bit one of the two female workers before disappearing into nearby fields.

The injured worker was taken to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where she received an anti-venom injection and was admitted for further treatment.

Dr Mohammad Idrees, speaking to reporters at the hospital, said the condition of the health worker was stable.

“We have taken all necessary steps to neutralise the venom and are keeping her under observation for at least 24 to 48 hours,” he added.
