Multipolar disorder

History has witnessed the rise and the fall of great powers. After World War II, the world entered into the cold war era, where the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) fought to maintain their hegemony. In 1991, the USSR disintegrated and an era of bipolarity ended. The US then started maintaining its hegemony with its military and economic power. A unipolar world could not last because other powerful states eventually rose to rival the US, like China and Russia.
We are now in a multipolar world and competition between the major powers has increased, as the ongoing US trade war shows. Global leaders must negotiate and resolve their issues to reduce the uncertainty in the global system.
