Man gunned down in city, another’s body found
Two violent incidents were reported in the city on Sunday, leaving a man dead in Shah Latif Town and another in Baldia Town, according to police sources.
In the first incident, a 35-year-old man identified as Gul Zaib, son of Qadir Bakhsh, was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Jam Kundo Chowk, close to Kulhari Chowk in Shah Latif Town.
Police said the incident occurred shortly after the Fajr prayers. The victim was reportedly sleeping on top of a water tank when unknown armed men opened fire on him. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Police recorded statements of eyewitnesses and collected forensic evidence from the scene. An investigation is under way to determine the motive and identify the attackers. In a separate case, a bloodied and tortured body of a man was recovered from Gulshan-e-Mazdoor, near the Mangal Bazaar Ground in Baldia Town. The Saeedabad police responded to the scene and took the body to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for examination.
Police said the identity of the deceased could not be immediately established, but he appeared to be between 40 and 45 years old. Initial reports suggest that the man may have been a drug addict involved in a fight with other addicts.
Doctors noted head injuries as the apparent cause of bleeding. Police said a nearby under-construction building raises the possibility that the man may have attempted to steal from the site and fell to his death. An investigation is under way. The body has been moved to the morgue.
