Taking notice of frequent traffic violations by and reports against police officials of all ranks, the Sindh police chief has ordered strict action, including registration of cases, against all cops violating the relevant laws.

An order issued by IG Ghulam Nabi Memon’s office reads that it has been observed that many cops do not follow the traffic rules, directing all Addl IGs, DIGs, SSPs, SPs, DSPs and SHOs in the province to strictly implement the instructions.

The letter states that traffic signals must not be violated at any cost by any police official, and those on motorbikes must always wear helmets, while all cops must have genuine number plates on their official and private vehicles.

The order reads that police officials’ private vehicles must not have tinted glasses, flashing lights or hooters, while no cop must violate lane discipline or drive without a valid licence.

The traffic police chiefs in the province have been ordered to take action against the cops found violating the traffic rules, and also ask the violators if their commanding officers (COs) had briefed them about the orders issued by the IG’s office. The letter warns of disciplinary action against any senior officer who fails to brief their subordinates, and disciplinary action and the registration of a criminal case against the violators who had been briefed by their COs.

Separately, the education department has been issued with a warning over government servants disobeying laws and rules. The letter reads that it has been observed that many officials of the department and its attached departments are using tinted glasses and fancy number plates on their official vehicles.

Since this practice is in violation of the traffic laws and regulations, and creates a negative impression of government officials, all officials of the education department and its attached departments have been directed to remove the tint films from their official and private vehicles immediately.

Since the use of fancy, non-standard or altered number plates is prohibited, they have been directed to use only the original number plates issued by the excise & taxation department. The letter warns that any official found violating these directives would face strict disciplinary action under the Sindh Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules.
