ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled April 17 for hearing of a contempt of court petition, filed by the opposition leader in the National Assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader, Omar Ayub, against Adiala jail authorities for failing to comply with the court orders, allowing him to meet the party founder Imran Khan in prison.
A single bench, led by Justice Inam Amin Minhas, had previously issued a notice to the jail authorities on March 7, directing them to submit their response. The petition contends that the authorities have repeatedly disregarded the court’s orders regarding visitation rights.
According to the standard operating procedures (SOPs), approved by the court, meetings with the PTI founder were to be held every Tuesday and Thursday. However, the petition argues that the jail administration failed to comply with the directive, violating both legal obligations and court orders.
In light of these alleged violations, Omar Ayub urged the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the jail officials for failing to implement the approved SOPs.
