Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi and reviewed the security measures adopted for the foreigners residing in the province, including the presence of private security companies’ guards.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the SOPs prepared by the governments of Pakistan and Sindh regarding private security guards assigned to the security of foreign citizens.

Chairman All Pakistan Security Agencies Association Major (retd) Munir Ahmed participated along with a 5-member delegation, while the DIGs of Headquarters, IT, SPU, Training and other police officers were also attended.

The meeting was briefed by Major (retd) Munir Ahmed, who said that after complete verification of the data from the law enforcement agencies, the data of all private security guards recruited and later deployed for the security of foreigners, especially Chinese residents, has been compiled, while the certified and registered security guards are being provided with a “barcode” service card and uniform badge by APSSA.

Through this barcode, the guard can be verified at any time through a mobile phone application. He said the guards need the help of the police for firing training; however, it is also necessary that legal action be taken against unregistered private security companies and guards.

IGP Memon said a coordination mechanism should be ensured for the implementation of SOPs related to private security companies and guards and other matters.

He instructed the DIG Training to make firing training of private guards possible in police training schools established in Karachi and interior of Sindh at the request of APSSA.

He said no government or private security personnel, whether in plain clothes or otherwise, are allowed to display weapons.

He further instructed that in case of wanted/absconding accused in the police record during the recruitment of security guards, such persons should be handed over to the police station through Police 15.
