HYDERABAD: The 20th convocation of the Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro (LUMHS) was held on Saturday.

Delivering the welcome address, LUMHS Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Ikram Din Ujjan said the graduation ceremony was the most significant and meaningful occasion of the university’s calendar.

A total of 1,033 graduates enrolled on the undergraduate programme and 288 graduates enrolled on the postgraduate programme were awarded degrees and diplomas for their achievements.

Addressing the graduates, the VC said the convocation was a truly momentous day in their lives, which they would always look back on. He said the universities were unique institutions and places of transformation that created and recreated knowledge.

He said the graduates of LUMHS would always carry the good name of their varsity with them. The VC asked the graduating students to serve their community and the nation. He said their profession was a noble profession and expressed the hope that they would prove their worth in that profession with commitment and accepting future challenges.

Prof Ujjan remarked that medical profession had been always commanding and demanding — commanding in a sense that it dealt with human life and thus had an over edge on all other professions.

“You are the fellows who can upgrade the quality of life of people by utilising your expertise with humble attitude and sympathetic behavior,” the VC said. A total number of 288 postgraduates, 342 graduates of MBBS, 200 BDS graduates, 45 doctor of physical therapy, 115 pharmacy, 131 BS nursing and 200 graduates of allied medical sciences received their degrees at the convocation.
