Amid her constant support for her husband Bruce Willis, who is navigating life with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Emma Heming Willis is taking a step further to help patients and families battling neurodegenerative disease.

For those unaware, Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive neurodegenerative disease, in early 2023, after an initial diagnosis of aphasia in 2022.

FTD shrinks the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes, which causes speech difficulties, loss of mobility, emotional liability, dietary changes, compulsive behaviours, and other challenges.

Even though the retired American actor recognizes his family, his condition is progressing and is currently facing communication challenges.

On Thursday, March 12, Emma attended The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration's Hope Rising Benefit in New York, where she was honoured with the Susan Newhouse & Si Newhouse Award of Hope.

While making the speech on the stage after receiving the award on behalf of both herself and her husband, the 47-year-old British model and actress proclaimed that she is launching the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support.

Emma, who has been taking care of her husband since 2022, said, “This journey has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face when a loved one is living with frontotemporal dementia.”

“I believe deeply in the importance of supporting research while also showing up for the caregivers who carry so much every day.”

"Through this fund, my hope is to help deepen understanding of FTD and ensure families facing it feel seen, supported, and less alone. Bruce has always led with generosity and heart, and I know he would be proud to see this effort helping families facing this disease,” the author of Unexpected Journey noted.

As per the press release, the philanthropic fund is "dedicated to advancing understanding of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) by raising awareness, supporting promising scientific research and strengthening support for caregivers.”

It is pertinent to mention that along with Bruce, Emma takes care of their daughters Mabel Ray Willis, 13, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 11.
