The bigger man
I applaud Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani for his refusal to preside over meetings of the house until the production orders of PTI Senator Ejaz Chauhdary are implemented by the government and he is produced in the upper house. This act reflects his democratic thinking, constitutional obligation and rational approach. If the PTI did wrong during its own tenure, it should not be repeated by a party comprising more mature and seasoned politicians. The prime minister must look into the matter and take concrete steps to execute the production orders issued by the senate chairman.
This will give impetus to our democratic and constitutional traditions. In case the government fails to produce the honourable member of the upper house, it may further widen the political vacuum between the ruling class and its allies and the opposition, which, in turn, is likely to heighten the political confrontation further.
